Life is a chain of continuous events through which we used to get some sweet or salty experiences. These experiences whether good or bad are there to help us to live an extra knowledgeable and effective life. Often we see that the hardest task is to get the first job and once you put your foot inside the door, it becomes easier after that as now experience is added.
Albert Einstein once said, “Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience. You need the experience to gain wisdom.”
We see that the key element to be successful at a job or earning more is experience. The same is true for your Spiritual Life. To get Spiritual bliss you have to gain experience – experiences of all the things that come to your path – good or bad. You must have the experience to handle any sort of thought or emotion – negative or positive.
Role of Experience in Spiritual Journey
As the only aim of human life is to live the life to its fullest glory – to experience its True Self, every little experience of our day to day life adds some to it. These are experiences through which we create our life, we tell our stories, we shape our personalities, and build our perception as we know it.
Experiences bring out our emotions and feelings to the surface. Here you can read how to use your emotions positively on your spiritual journey. For instance, our very first moment in a city we have never visited before or walked on a snowy road for the first time or the separation of a loved one. You may know these things but the only experience makes you feel them.
For example, you read a lot of theoretical subjects, you have a great knowledge of things but you understand them better when you read that after the practical experience. The same is with meditation. You have read a lot about Meditation and Spirituality and it feels easy to you when someone tells you that meditation is all about sitting and observe thoughts. But when you practically sit and think, then only you understand how difficult the task is.
And when you start practising you encounter many spiritual experiences like restlessness, anxiety, tingling of your fingers, lightening and vibrating of body, relaxing and all.
These all are the experiences that quickly bring our thoughts to the surface. And thoughts or emotions, as I always say, are the key elements to know our true self as all the experiences happen only within us. These are not external but internally created by your mind and body.
Understand Your Experience – Know Your Real Self
Generally, when we start practising Spirituality, we want to go towards spiritual bliss quickly. We think Spirituality is all about escaping the sadness and happiness of life but that’s not true. We climb many notches to get to the concept of Spirituality and this starts making noise in our mind. We must understand that it’s the only experience that makes us feel bliss on the Spiritual Path. And so we should go towards spiritual experiences rather than bliss. We should emphasize the ways to get into the depths of our experiences.
As Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev quotes, “Every experience of your life – light and darkness, pain and pleasure, misery and joy, agony and ecstasy – happens only within you.” It’s a big opportunity for all of us to understand these experiences and thus know our true self.
EXPERIENCE new things, take risks, learn from others. Go to what pursuits you, even in case you don’t understand why. When you’re attracted to things, that is your inner voice speaking to you. You can also additionally simply have fun doing anything you’re interested in or it can change your path.
While experiencing notice the feelings and emotions you are encountering with. What are the feelings you are getting through each experience, observe them and note them down without judgement and you will see a pattern of how you experience things. You will understand what the things or people or experiences are of your frequency that gives you bliss and what not and then only you will be able to know what you want to experience. You will recognise what your soul goes for.
