This post is for you, who has faith and curiosity to learn that there is something bigger that is far beyond our imagination but is an integrated part of our life. As a beginner, you can follow these given 7 steps to start your Spiritual Journey.
1. Know the meaning of spirituality
2. Commit to the Journey
3. Practice
4. Embrace What it brings
5. Take a record
6. Ground Yourself
7. Master the lessons
1. Know the meaning of Spirituality
To start any journey, you must be aware of its path, the obstacles, the distance, the time it will take to complete the journey. The spiritual journey is a transformational journey. The path you take is built into yourself, in your expanding minds, hearts, and energy system. So, start with something simple.
Read, read and read. Start reading about spirituality, learn from books. There is a great variety of books on Spirituality. Read and absorb the information it has. Read from the blogs, there are plenty on the internet. Read What is Spirituality. But don’t read just one book as it will give a single point of view of spirituality. So I would recommend you to read as many books and blogs as you can until you are fully satisfied with the knowledge.
Learn What is Soul's Desire.
Listen. Listen to the Gurus, the masters, the sages of all the time. When I started my spiritual journey I used to listen to Kamlesh Patel Daaji, The President of Shri Ramachandra Mission. I will say that He is the best thing that happened to me. And then there are other spiritual personalities you can listen to like Ramkrishna Paramhans, Yogananda Paramhans, Swami Vivekananda, Buddha and many other Hindu monks. Start listening to them as it’s the most powerful tool to get clarity on the topic.
Ask. As now you know every little thing about Spirituality by reading and listening, ask yourself, “Am I okay with living a life without a spiritual journey?” If the answer is yes then stop. You don’t have to start your journey. But if the answer is no then go ahead with your journey.
2. Commit to the Journey
Now as you are ready and have decided to go on to the spiritual journey then commit to it. You can not be able to embrace something so radical as your spiritual aspect without making any firm decision. Make a concrete goal and start.
3. Practice
Spiritual journey generally starts with practising Meditation (as most Masters suggest) or just with silencing yourself. And then with loving yourself and others. Regular practice is key. And so practice daily.
Practice meditation. Meditation is silencing the mind and going within. As you quiet the mind, you create space for new insights and understanding to come into your conscious awareness. Read everything you need to know about meditation.
Practice attention. Practising attention to your inner feelings and your surroundings gives you a wonderful experience of each moment. When you live in the moment your nervousness and restlessness goes away and thus it helps in your spiritual journey.
Practice kindness. While practising kindness remember that to bring kindness into the world you must begin by being kind to yourself. Connect with what is in your heart and honour it.
4. Embrace what it brings
Whatever experience your practice brings, embrace it. Embrace the fact that changes are bound to happen no matter how scary they seem because you never know where it might take you. To that;
Don’t Judge. Whatever the experience you come with, don’t try to judge it in terms of good or bad. Let the experience take you wherever it wants to. Observe it and accept it without judgement is the only way to embrace the experience.
5. Take a record
Nothing is better for self-reflection than writing down your experiences and thoughts that are coming up during meditation or while reading a book.
Write. Whatever the things you are grateful for today, write them down. Whatever the experiences, feelings, intuitive thoughts you have, write them down. It is a powerful tool to discover new understanding or a new way to look at the things that shift your perspective.
6. Ground yourself
When you established yourself as spiritual there comes a time when your ego starts rising. You might come up with thoughts like you are better than others or that some people are not good for your journey. So it’s good to ground yourself while walking a spiritual path.
Ground yourself by spending some time in Nature or walking barefoot on the earth. It reminds you where you belong and thus helps you to see others as you are.
7. Master the lessons
Remember that spirituality is not about being perfectly happy all day long. But it’s about rising above the nuances and stay in the flow of life. It’s about surrendering and having less personal preferences. It’s about realizing the importance of morals like being kind and honest.
