"I hand over all the weight of this life in your hands,
Victory is in your hands And defeat in your hands."
It was one of our school prayers. And, we students, used to sing this with the flow. We never thought of the meaning as it was only a routine for us. And if anyone would have thought, then this is what it means to remember God. I never thought that being surrender could help me to know my inner self.
But as I grew older and started reading some religious and spiritual books, then I notice that the word surrender has been strongly emphasized in every religious book. Only then I came to know that the meaning of surrender is something bigger than I imagined.

According to the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna said the following to the warrior Arjuna, who became his disciple:
After attaining Me, the great souls do not incur rebirth in this miserable transitory world, because they have attained the highest perfection. — Chapter 8, Verse 15
Krishna further said:
....those who, renouncing all actions in Me, and regarding Me as the Supreme, worship Me... For those whose thoughts have entered into Me, I am soon the deliverer from the ocean of death and transmigration, Arjuna. Keep your mind on Me alone, your intellect on Me. Thus you shall dwell in Me hereafter. — Chapter 12, Verses 6-8
And then I started thinking and these questions popped up into my mind.
Why we often hear these lines "let go" or " let it be"?
Why do we need to let go?
Why surrender when we can control?
Why surrender when we can do whatever we want to?
Why surrender when we can be anything we want to?
And surrender to whom? After all, we are a fighter, how can we surrender so naturally?
Why do all the holy books suggest to surrender?
These questions provoke me to know the real meaning and reason behind this Surrendering. It fascinated me and invited me to unravel this mystery of surrender?
So, here what I understood about surrender from the teachings of our ancient Saints.

What is the real meaning of Surrender to God?
There lives ego within us who thinks itself all-knowing and all-powerful and have 'I can do it all by myself ' attitude. Asking for help makes us feel weak.
But it should never be like this, we have to learn to ask for help, we have to understand that we need support sometimes, we have to realize that nobody is strong enough to all it alone. We have to accept the fact that we have limitations and we are not alone but all of us have imperfections.
Accepting this fact is what we called surrender. Accepting our imperfections, our limits is Surrender.
A very common meaning of the word Surrender is to completely give up your own will and subjects your thoughts, ideas, and deeds to the will and teachings of a higher power.
Why do we need surrender to God?
The society, we are living in, reward the people for being supermen and women. Our human mind tends to control everything, to resist everything that it doesn't like and in resisting or controlling game there comes a point when we know that we can't resist it anymore. At that point, we know that our all strategies have failed to control that particular situation.
And this is the time we need support from the higher power, we need to surrender.
Sometimes people take it wrong. They ask God to do what they can't do themselves. Some kind of impossible things they ask Him to do. That's wrong. Completely. Surrendering is just handing over everything including your good, evil, merits, and shortcomings and allow Him to do it for you.
How Being Surrender To God Can Help You To Know Your True Self?
We all trust God. But our trust varies with situations. In some situations we trust him but in others, we don't if his power changes somehow. But surrender makes us trust him more and more. Resisting something or someone is exhausting. Fighting makes us tired. When we stop resisting, we find rest.
This is the most amazing thing, I feel, about the surrender to God that it is always followed by peace, relief and ease as you let go of your striving nature. There comes clarity in your thoughts that gives you the true sense of your real self and you realize that resisting, effort into or controlling doesn't work after a certain point. You understand yourself clearly and know that what is meant for you can't be taken away from you. You understand yourself, your power, your weakness transparently.
With surrender, we give up our actions and results as we know that results are not in our hand but actions and thus we trust the process, we observe the journey without the urge to reach the destination fast. We, now, willingly accept life as it is. We accept our life it is

If you are not willing to do even this, God will not be able to do anything.
