Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that we don’t know what to do. The thing can be small, still, we feel confused about what to do. Things like
Should I take that job?
I don’t like my job so what to do now?
My boss terminated me, I don’t know what to do now?
I shouldn’t have done that, how will I correct it now?
No, I can’t take that step, what if it leads to failure?
My friend is upset with me, what to do now?
These are the smallest things that suddenly looks big.
So how can you stop feeling “don’t know what to do”. Well, I don’t have the answer. I don’t know what should you do now. I only know that you need to decide and do something. Just do anything.
Before you read on I would like to announce that we have new release of all kinds of ‘discovering yourself books' to heal your trauma and free your heart.
Here are the three things you can do when you don’t know what to do.
1. Stop trying to control the state of “not knowing what to do”.
The first rule to overcome any problem is accepting that you have a problem. So just accept that you don’t know. And know that there is nothing to worry about not knowing. You can’t know everything. You can’t guess the outcome of your decision every time.
So, stop trying to second-guess every possible outcome of every possible decision. Stop trying to control and account for every accountability. It just isn’t possible.
2. Understand that you don’t need to know always
You don’t know what is right in every aspect, therefore, you can only react with what you have, what you know, and how you feel, right here, right now. And you don’t need to know how to do it, you just need to do it. You just need to allow it to happen.
There shouldn't be a problem if you don’t know how to do that. You know what the wrong thing is. Just opt out of that. Do not choose that. Simple. Right things will happen automatically.
If you don’t know what the wrong thing is to try to take down your notes for every possible decision. And decide by catching your feelings that is how you feeling about each decision. Read how to choose a clear path.
3. Just do something. Anything. Be decision free.
Feeling confused about what to do can make you anxious. And then more anxious about feeling anxious. So take the decision. Whatever the decision is that you feel right, just make it. What is the worst that can happen?
Here’s what the author of the booklet, Robert R. Updegraff, once said about doing the obvious:
“The trouble is, the obvious is apt to be so simple and commonplace that it has no appeal to the imagination. We all like clever ideas and ingenious plans that make a good lunch-table talk at the club. There is something about the obvious that is–well, so very obvious!”
Just make the decision and be glad you made it. Enjoy the freedom that follows.
Conclusion
Stop allowing the thought “I don’t know what to do” to paralyze you. Instead, just do what feels right without considering its outcome. Live your life to the fullest by having a strategy for those times when you don’t know what to do.
